Okay so more of our stuff at Yours For Your Day that isn’t quite furniture but we’re giving them a Friday Furniture Feature regardless! Even though our old doors and windows are not technically furniture, they do rent out to couples for their weddings all the time so we’re elevating them to furniture status, just for today.
At Yours For Your Day, we’re not your standard rental company. Honestly, we love old and rustic stuff and we love clients who love old stuff too! We search for items all over the place that we can reuse, recycle, upcycle, and salvage. That’s just what we do. We don’t order our pieces from a suppler; we hunt for them, find them in an unfortunate state, fix them up, and make them relevant and pretty. Which brings us to old windows and doors. I think finding architectural salvaged items that we can make into something else is just about my most favorite find!
Trash to Treasure
We’ve got vintage windows that can be used for signs and even some windows on their own stands that can be used to create an “indoor” space outside or a fabulous entrance statement!
We’ve got old doors full of character that can be used as a ceremony backdrop or a grand entrance.
Other doors have been transformed into an escort card station, a bridal getting-ready full-length mirror, a bridal gown photo backdrop, a sweet beverage or dessert bar, and photo gallery! Other doors have even been upcycled into their own version of a farm table! How about some Victorian screen doors that once graced a home in Georgetown? They are free-standing and can also make for an impressive ceremony or reception entrance.
The possibilities are truly endless with these architectural pieces which is why we love them so much! So let your imaginations run wild with all the different ways architectural salvaged items can amp-up your wedding decor!
Let’s talk about several furniture pieces today! Not specific pieces but rather various upholstered pieces and tables that when put together, create amazing lounge groupings. Lounge groupings are very popular at weddings. They are ideal for guests during cocktail hour. Mix in a couple of lounge groupings with a few cocktail tables and everyone will be so appreciative and impressed by such a thoughtful gesture! And they make for perfect little escapes at receptions to give guests a quieter spot to talk and visit with other guests, away from the music and revelry!
Everyone Enjoys a Good Lounge Session!
Older guests will love that they have someplace chic and comfy to relax. Even the hardiest of party animals will enjoy a soft place to land and catch their breath between songs. All guests will be woo’d over by a lounge that complements the wedding theme to a tee! And that’s because vintage furniture isn’t just for the vintage themed wedding. Nope, with so many different styles of furniture, the pieces merely look classy, chic, and perfectly curated!
We love when our pieces get to go out as lounge groupings because they’re great out-of-the-box additions to any event. We constantly hear back from our clients that they received tons of complements from guests about the furniture at their wedding. And that’s sweet, sweet music to our ears!
I probably could have come up with a different name for this piece but Possum Belly was just too cute. And hey, that’s what this type of table is called so why not just stick with a good thing!
When we first found this table, I just fell in love with the way it looked. I had no clue what it was originally used for! All I knew is that it was perfectly imperfect and would fit right in with all of our other misfit rentals! It wasn’t until some time later that I learned it was an antique baking table. I thought perfect, what better table to use for a cake or dessert display?
And that’s where this workhorse of a table shines most brightly! He’s perfect for displaying desserts because he’s deep and wide and fully capable of holding lots of our cake stands! And then there’s the drawers! Like all of our buffets and dressers, any and all of the drawers can be used to hold service ware, flowers, decor, etc. We especially love “flowers” spilling out of those big ol’ rounded bottom drawers that were originally intended to hold “flours”, get it?
Old Furniture Displays are Just Too Cool!
Anytime I can work with a couple who has a vision for something unique, outside of the box, and something other than a standard rental table covered with a standard linen, I am thrilled! Seriously (as my 6 year old granddaughter often says), anything you need a table to display can be displayed on an old buffet, dresser, or in this case, a possum belly table! I mean just look at all of that character!
So don’t forget to give some old furniture a thought if you need a table for something like a fabulous dessert spread! You really can’t go wrong and guests will be so impressed with your creativity and attention to detail!
Thank you dear Possum Belly Table for being so darn fun to own and rent out to people who grow to love you as much as we do at Yours For Your Day!
Vintage furniture pieces are the ideal substitution for your average linen-covered display tables at weddings. The Elliott Vanity is one of our star performers ready to step-in and amp-up any display with style, grace, and character!
Here’s the Elliott all dressed up as a beverage station! My favorite aspect of using vintage furniture as a display table is being able to use dresser, buffet, and vanity drawers for additional display space!
Another fine characteristic of The Elliott is his grand mirror. It’s particularly charming when displaying a gorgeous cake or styled dessert bar. The reflection is stunning in photos and will give guests a 360 degree view of all those yummy treats!
A vintage vanity makes for a stunning prop in bridal getting-ready or boudoir shots!
Or really just about any display you can think of! The Elliott, like so many of our pieces, is just so darn versatile! And what a fantastic way to add so much charm and sophistication to your wedding. It’s all those little details that come together to make for a spectacular event!
Anyone else have some creative ways in which they’ve used vintage furniture pieces like our Elliott Vanity? Would love to hear how you may have incorporated lovely old furniture into your wedding or event!
This guy has been a favorite of ours since the beginning! And he’s starting to gain some significant traction in our wedding rental world. The finish on this bad boy is perfectly chippy and incredibly full of character. Measuring in at over 5 feet long, Bosley is a magnificent statement piece! He’s impressive and quite worthy of all of the “oohs” and “aahs” you will get from your guests!
Let’s Put a Lid on It!
I mean Bosley was pretty spectacular all on his own with the ability to create amazing stacked displays (think rustic crates, floral arrangements and small decor all tucked in like the photo below.) But now, he has a wonderful “lid” that was handcrafted especially for him and whoa, the sky’s the limit for this awesome cart! Having a lid now allows Bosley to double as both a display and a tabletop!
Have Bosley, Will Travel
And he rolls like a champ so we’ve been able to roll him just about anywhere he needs to go to perfectly highlight a dessert bar, beverage bar, cake table, you name it! So if you are planning for a rustic, vintage, chippy, or full-of-character wedding, Bosley’s your man! He’s perfect for outdoor events and a fantastic way to punch-up your rustic theme indoors too! We can’t wait to see how he will be used next!
We love our aspen arbors and so do our clients! They make for the perfect ceremony backdrop and can be used for both indoor and outdoor weddings. And they are so darn versatile because you can dress them up or dress them down! Add a few flowers, spectacular. Add some draping, dramatic! They’re rustic, they’re all natural, and they are all Colorado!
Oh and hey, if you pair them with our Aspen Fence Sections (which create the most amazing ceremony entrance) you have a creative way to take a big open space and turn it into an intimate ceremony area.
These arbors are very popular with our clients. They go out to weddings all over the place and on a very regular basis. That’s why we’re excited to announce that we’ll be adding even more arbors to our inventory in the very near future. Stay tuned for their arrivals!
And we can set up these puppies on any surface! We’ve even got some nifty aspen weights that not only look great but keep the arbors held fast to the ground. Even on a hard surface like concrete and even in the wind, they’ll stay upright, no problem!
Aspen Arbors; Take Your Pick!
Right now we have the Estes Park; perfect for smaller areas but still dramatic with a full 8 feet in height! And we also have the Kremmling which is the larger of the two and has a great amount of space within it to accommodate a cute vintage table, vanity, or dresser to serve as a ceremony or altar table!
So happy to share our aspen arbors with you today and so excited to add some fun new styles in arbors soon!
Creating the wedding of your dreams regardless of your budget is completely doable! Your wedding decor is the largest component of designing your wedding so we want to help you figure out where and how to obtain all of the decor that will make your wedding:
a true reflection of your personal style
And by the way, affordable means whatever works for you and your budget. So let’s dive into this article and look at the simplest and most cost efficient ways to make your wedding decor happen.
5 Best Wedding Decor Resources
Hobby Lobby or Michaels or JoAnn Fabrics (Okay, so that’s 3 resources in 1 but they’re all pretty similar!) Best local place to purchase crafty components for making your own decor. Think escort cards, table numbers/names, display table decor, decor to go along with your reception table centerpieces. Also, a whole lot of ready-to-go decor and signage you can purchase; no assembly required!
Local Thrift Stores. Thrift stores are a great place to pick-up, china, sterling silver serving pieces and small furniture pieces you may want to use for your ceremony entrance, altar table, guest book table, etc. Pieces can be easily painted or refinished to create something completely transformed. But don’t try to take on too much when it comes to furniture. You don’t want to stress yourself out with too many DIY projects; keep it simple!
Rentals, Rentals, Rentals. Well I had to be sure you are aware of providers such as our company Yours For Your Day. Specialty rentals are a great way to get the decor elements and furniture you need without the hassle of finding pieces to do yourself and then figure out what to do with all of them after the wedding!
Craigslist offers a wealth of opportunity to find decor items you may need. Quite often, couples list various decor elements that they pulled together for their own wedding at amazing prices and with all of the “work” already done. But take heed! You may be that same couple in a few months having to do the same thing to get rid of all of those once-in-a-lifetime details you no longer have any use for!
There you go, a quick list of resources to get you started on designing your dream wedding. While this just scratches the surface, I’m hoping you can take these options and make them work for you!
But Wait, There’s More!!
I’ve got a few more resources to share in our current issue of the Yours For Your Day magazine. It’s the third issue in our Wedding Design series so get on over there to get even more details on where to find all of the wedding decor you need for the money you want to spend! Take care and happy planning!
Are you thinking outside-of-the-box when it comes to planning your wedding or other special event? Standard folding chairs not doing it for you? Great!!! We’re on the same page and today we want to introduce you to our Mismatched Chairs!
Aren’t they fun?! My favorite saying is “No one will ever remember the chairs at your wedding…unless they’re AMAZING!” Every aspect of your decor will emphasize the theme and overall “feel” of your wedding and that includes the seating!
We love a mix of white chairs, brown chairs, benches, and upholstered pieces to get that truly eclectic and laid-back look. Here are some more great reasons to consider using mismatched seating for your event:
THEY LOOK AWESOME!
No ugly chairs cluttering up the photos of your big day (your photographer won’t have to creatively shoot around them!)
Your guests will be completely impressed with your attention to every detail, even right down to the seating!
Mismatched chairs are perfect for rustic, vintage, eclectic, and romantic themes
They are perfect for outdoor weddings
These chairs are comfy and look great with vintage reception tables or farm tables
Best Ways to Use Mismatched Chairs
Use them for all of your ceremony or reception seating for a total eclectic look
Mix them in with some standard seating at your ceremony to still get that eclectic look for less money
How about just the front rows at your ceremony for family and special guests
Perfect for your reception head table or sweetheart table
My favorite: aisle decor (just the first chair on the aisle for every row or every other row and adorn them with flower clusters or greenery)
Additionally, our mismatched chairs pair perfectly with our aspen arbors ! So don’t just roll with whatever your venue may have for chairs or think that a standard folding chair is your only option! Get creative with every aspect of your decor and make it eclectic with some amazing mismatched seating!
Take care and happy planning!
Wedding decor and weather; where’s this conversation going you may ask? Well, it is a beautiful day out today and all of this Colorado unseasonably warm and dry weather got me thinking. Let me first preface this discussion by saying that I love winter weather here. Everyone who lives here knows, everyone else out there has our winter weather all wrong. We get beautiful blue skies most all the time, mild temperatures, and while snow can be challenging now and then, we’re never buried in it for any length of time! And yeah, moisture is a good thing!
What Does This Have to do with Wedding Decor?
Okay, so it’s warm and dry out and I thought it would be a good time to talk about where you are in your wedding design and make some suggestions on how to best utilize this weather for your planning process. So here are 3 suggestions for you:
Visit Your Venue
If you’ve already booked your outdoor venue, this might be the perfect time to schedule another visit and take a look around without the snow on the ground. Sure you’ll have to imagine leaves on some of the trees but seeing your venue snow-less may be just what you need to start sparking some new visions of how to use your wedding decor. And if you haven’t yet booked your venue, now’s the time to get out there and start looking around! Take advantage of the weather now because we all know there’s more snow coming!
Do Some Planning
Take some time to get out and enjoy the weather and allow it to free-up your creativity. Go alone or go with your fiance and find a quiet spot in a park somewhere, spread out a blanket, and let the thoughts flow! Dream-up all of the details that will fulfill your vision of how you want your wedding day to look, feel, and be remembered. Then start to put together your game-plan of how you will acquire all of the decor details. Decide which ones you’ll take on yourself and which ones you will leave to the experts. Don’t think about anything else! This is your opportunity to breathe in some fresh air, behold the wonders around you, and dig into your overall wedding design. If you’re working with a planner, ask them to meet-up with you somewhere outside to get everyone’s creative juices flowing! They’ll surely appreciate the time outdoors as well!
Don’t Do Any Planning!
And now that I just suggested a dedicated trip outdoors to plan for your wedding, I am now going to suggest you schedule time to do anything but think of your wedding! That’s right, get out there together as a couple or just you by yourself (because that can be just what you need), and don’t think about the wedding. Drive up to the mountains for lunch, go to your closest open space for a hike, or go for a bike ride! Anything that will allow you to free your mind of all things wedding! Enjoy a peaceful setting where you can relax, breathe deep, and do nothing but enjoy the scenery and the company of one another or your own soul!
Three simple suggestions to help you get through the process of planning (or not planning) your wedding! Setting aside some outdoor time to focus on the details and some additional time to focus on anything but the wedding, will be just what you need to recharge your batteries and get you focused! Enjoy your time out there but hurry up, I’m sure the snow will hit at any time; it is Colorado after all!
Designing your “Best Day Ever” is pretty simple, as long as you “get” wedding decor! Sometimes it’s easy to forget just how many elements of decor there really are, until you have to pull it all together for your big day. Most folks would probably think décor just means decorations and they would be right, but it is so much more than that. I touched on the simplicity of wedding planning and decor decades ago in one of my first articles, but we are far from that simplicity today! When it comes down to it, your décor plays a pivotal role in your big day! Every aspect sets the tone for the event. Your personal style and personality should be the driving factor for all of your décor decisions because after all, you want this event to be spectacular!
First Steps in Decor Design
So let’s start at the beginning. Once you get engaged, one of the very first things you will want to do is set a date, that’s if you have a pretty firm grasp on when you want your wedding to be. Or you will find a venue first because you’ve set it as a high priority and you are flexible with the date. Of course, if you are planning far enough in advance, you shouldn’t have any problem with getting just the right location on just the right date! Whether you realize it or not, picking your venue, your date, and even your wedding dress are some of your first decor decisions! They are the initial building blocks that will set the tone for the overall “feel” of your wedding day!
All other decor elements will then build on those initial decisions and complement the overall experience for both you and your guests. Remember that decor sets the mood, creates atmosphere, and projects your personal style and creativity throughout the ceremony and reception! For that reason, you want to keep some consistency going throughout all decor elements, so let’s talk about some of those now:
Wedding Decor Defined
(think of it as a common thread) ColorScheme (your venue, time of year, time of day can all factor into the colors you use) Flowers (you’ll want them to complement both your theme and color scheme) Lighting (don’t underestimate the power of great lighting to enhance experience) Table Decor (anything that may accompany your centerpieces on your reception tables) Display Tables/Furniture Pieces (we’re talking cake/dessert table, memory table, gift table, escort card display, etc.) Food/Cake/Desserts (yep, they can all be considered part of your decor and should complement as well) Tables/Chairs (sure they’re just tables and chairs but they can play a big part in pulling your overall look together) Linens/Tableware (easy ways to highlight theme, color scheme, and style) Layouts (you can get mighty creative with your layouts to enhance the look, feel, and flow)
And while the above list is still not all-inclusive, hopefully you can begin to see how everything really does work together to give you cohesiveness throughout every aspect of the day. Your decor design is critical, so you want to be sure that you go into your planning with eyes wide open! As we discussed in our last article on finding the balance between your vision and your budget, you will want to be mindful of what decor aspects you want to DIY and what aspects you should leave to the experts!
